The yearly bill depends less on how many domains you have than on what each provider counts. Google Workspace and Microsoft 365 charge per user ($7 a user a month on their entry plans), Migadu charges one price per account by how much you send ($19 to $990 a year), Purelymail charges $10 a year, and SuperMailOS charges per mailbox ($3–$6 a month) with aliases free. For 4 people on 2 domains, billed yearly, that is $10 on Purelymail, $90 on Migadu, $144 on SuperMailOS, and $336 on Google Workspace or $336 on Microsoft 365.

Why do the totals differ so much?

  • Per user (Google Workspace, Microsoft 365, Proton). Every person is a license, and each plan comes with a suite: Docs and Drive, Microsoft’s apps and Teams, or Proton’s encrypted Drive and VPN. If your team uses the suite, the price buys more than mail.
  • Per mailbox (SuperMailOS). Every person is a mailbox. Aliases and shared access are free, and the plan only changes with the number of domains (Pro up to 3, Business unlimited).
  • Per account, by volume (Migadu). One price for the whole account, set by how many messages it sends and receives a day. Many people sending little is cheap; a busy day can push you up a tier.
  • Flat (Purelymail). $10 a year with no hard limits on users, domains or storage. Heavy use can move an account to usage-based pricing.

Which published limits matter when you run several domains?

A dash means the provider’s pages we checked don’t state that limit.

What does the calculator leave out?

  • The suites. Google, Microsoft and Proton prices include apps and storage that SuperMailOS doesn’t sell. If you’d use them, compare on more than mail.
  • Zoho Mail and Fastmail prices in US dollars. Their pages showed us regional prices, so they appear as “Not priced” with the facts we could read.
  • Tax, discounts and promotions. Every price is a list price before tax.
  • Sending limits at per-user providers. They aren’t part of the pricing pages we checked, so they don’t change these totals.

Where do the numbers come from?

Each competitor fact was read on that provider’s own pages on the date shown. SuperMailOS’s prices are on our pricing page.

Questions

How does the calculator work out a year's price?

Per-user providers (Google Workspace, Microsoft 365, Proton) are people × the monthly price × 12. SuperMailOS is mailboxes × its monthly price × 12, on the cheapest plan that covers your domains. Migadu is one account on the cheapest tier whose daily sending limit covers you. Purelymail is $10 a year. Zoho Mail counts as free only when its Forever Free plan covers the team (up to 5 users on 1 domain).

Is SuperMailOS the cheapest option?

No. For most small teams Purelymail ($10 a year) and Migadu (from $19 a year) cost less, and Zoho's Forever Free plan costs nothing for up to 5 users on one domain. SuperMailOS usually costs less than Google Workspace, Microsoft 365 and Proton for email-only use. What it sells is every domain in one inbox, per-person pricing with free aliases, and the DNS and deliverability setup done for you.

Does adding domains cost more?

Not on Google Workspace or Microsoft 365, whose prices are per user (Google allows up to 600 domains, Microsoft typically up to 5,000), nor on Migadu or Purelymail. On SuperMailOS, Pro covers up to 3 domains and Business is unlimited, so a fourth domain moves you from $3 to $5 a mailbox a month, billed yearly.

Do aliases like hello@ and support@ cost extra?

Not on SuperMailOS (unlimited, every domain), Microsoft 365 (up to 400 per user, no fee) or Migadu (unlimited). Google Workspace includes up to 30 per user; past that, Google says you need another Google account. Proton's Workspace plans include 20 addresses per user.

Why aren't Zoho Mail and Fastmail priced?

Their pricing pages showed us regional prices, not US dollars, and we don't convert or estimate a price we couldn't read. Both are listed with what their pages do say: Zoho's Forever Free limits, and Fastmail's custom domains starting on its Standard plan.
