Glossary · DNS
A TXT record holds free-form text in DNS. Email uses it for SPF, DKIM, DMARC, BIMI and MTA-STS, and services use it to verify domain ownership.
Each TXT record is one or more strings of up to 255 characters, joined when read. Long values like DKIM keys are split into several quoted strings; most DNS panels do this automatically.
Several TXT records can share a name, but some uses allow only one: a domain may publish exactly one SPF record and one DMARC record.
