JMAP

JMAP is a modern IETF standard for mail apps that uses JSON over HTTPS for efficient syncing, pushing changes and sending.

JMAP (RFC 8620, with mail in RFC 8621) was designed as a successor to IMAP for today's apps. One HTTPS connection handles reading, searching and sending, and the server pushes changes instead of the app polling.

It's efficient on mobile networks and easier for developers than IMAP's stateful text protocol. Support is growing among mail servers and apps, while IMAP and SMTP remain the universal baseline.
